Yorkshire Timber Engineering have been manufacturing Ecojoist® Metal Web Joist Solutions for more than 8 years. The system allows simple passage of all service ducting, wiring and plumbing with consummate ease.
Ecojoist® floor beams are a natural progression from timber frame walls and trussed rafters. Available in six different sizes (ranging from 195mm to 425mm), ecojoists have many practical benefits. Its lightweight construction ensures a reduction of site wastage, minimal shrinkage and an elimination of surface run pipework. In addition, economical roofs of prefabricated lightweight trussed rafters can be designed for all applications, from the build of small extensions to large commercial schemes.
The depth, length and specification can all be adjusted to produce joists with specific performance criteria.
Metal web joists can eliminate the need for loadbearing intermediate walls.
The use of smaller timber sections together with the metal webs means that there is less shrinkage and a reduced risk of squeaky floors.
Metal web joists when used with a rigid ‘Strongback’ reduce vibration of a floor.
he open web structure means they are lighter to handle than solid timber joists.
Increased spans, simpler installation of utilities, flexibility in design and faster erection can result insignificantly reduced building costs.
Ecojoists® are a very simple concept that has raised the bar in engineered construction to an unprecedented height. The timbers used for Eco-joists are the same as the walls, being Pine/Spruce/Fir. The Timber Strength Class (TSC) is raised to TR26 form C16 and a typical timber size actual is 47mm x 72mm or 47mmx 97mm. The joist consists of two timbers (Top chord and Bottom Chord) these are held together by metal web flanges pressed into the top and bottom chords by a special machine.
Ecojoists® can span greater distances than solid or fabricated timber alternatives and, given that they provide an economic alternative to steel or concrete beams, considerable savings can be made in the use of raw materials.
